Rink second for JVC girls in Howard

HOWARD — Olivia Rink was second for James Valley Christian during the Howard Invite on Monday. She finished with a 41 through nine holes, which put her a stroke behind the medalist.

Ayla McDonald of Chester Area won the event with a 40.

Rounding out the top five in the final girls’ standings were Mia Glanzer of Howard at 43, Shaylee Longe of Bridgewater-Emery at 44 and Piper Thompson of Howard at 45.

Kirstie Munsen of Wessingto Springs was 12th at 49, while Angelina Zuccaro of JVC also shot a 49. Cheyenne Burg of Wessington Springs had a 54 and was followed by Dayton Easton of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket at 56 and Lily Hofer of JVC at 59.

With four of the top seven golfers in the field, Howard won the girls’ title with 134. Chester Area was second at 136, followed by McCook Central/Montrose at 144 and James Valley Christian at 149.

Ethan Bartholow and Ryan Stahl both had scores of 40 to finish in spots No. 7 and 8, respectively, for the JVC boys, while teammate Jevin Goertz was a stroke back at 41.

Brock Krueger and Blake Larson had scores of 41 for Wessington Springs, while teammate Jacob Messmer finished at 44.

Collin Schmiedt of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket finished at 46, while Ethan Schmiedt had a 49 for the Blackhawks.

Tyler Fastnacht turned in a 52 for Wessington Springs, while Xavier Baysinger and Brody Miller of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket had scores of 54 and 52, respectively.

Howard won the boys’ title with 112, while Chester Area was second at 118. JVC finished third at 118, followed by Wessington Springs at 126. Sanborn Central/Woonsocket was eighth at 149.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket and Wessington Springs will compete in the James Valley Christian Invite on Thursday at Broadland Creek Golf Course.
