HURON — Ron Hins Livestock and the extended Ron Hins family were named the 2021 Friends of Rodeo Award on Sunday at the 4-H Heartland Rodeo, for all of the longtime support that has been provided for the rodeo, for 4-H and for the community.
Ron Hins Livestock was presented the traveling “Wild Steer” bronze statue in recognition of the company’s selection.
The Hins family is no stranger to the sport of rodeo and the western way of life, as both Ron and Jill were competitors in their younger years, and Jill still competes in the arena today. Their children Lindsey Brewer and Tater Hins both competed through out the ranks of 4-H, High School into the professional arenas. Lindsey continues to compete in barrel racing and you can find Tater at the ranch rodeos as well.
Lindsey and her husband Charles have two daughters, Charleigh, 11, and Baylee, 2, and you can find Charleigh competing in the rodeo and barrel arenas as well.
Tater and Marae have 3 children – Talley, 10, Tatyn, 4, and McCoy, who is 1. Talley has had a great start in the barrel arena as well.
Ron Hins Livestock was among the original business sponsors and supporters of the first Heartland 4-H Rodeo, and throughout the years the Hins family has supported not only rodeo but 4-H, ranch rodeos, bull riding events and livestock events.
They have also provided livestock, bucking chutes, drag and equipment for 4-H Rodeos, Jr High & High School Rodeos, roping events, barrel races, Little Britches Rodeos and any opportunity they have to help.
This weekend marks the 32nd Annual Heartland 4-H Rodeo, and thanks to the Huron Sertoma Club, the committee is able to highlight an individual, family or organization that has contributed socially, economically, or culturally to the betterment of the immediate Beadle County area with heavy emphasis on youth, rodeo and other equine activities through the Friends of Rodeo Award.
