HHS Automotive & Welding

Students in the automotive engine repair class at Huron High School are working on replacing the engine in a students’ vehicle with a remanufactured one.

They have the old engine removed and will now be cleaning the parts that will be going on the replacement engine and reinstalling it in the vehicle. They will be replacing cooling and ignition components to ensure that the vehicle runs properly when they are finished.

The engine repair class is also working on a 1985 Jaguar that was donated to the school. The vehicle has been in storage for many years so they are checking the entire vehicle and replacing necessary parts to get the vehicle in running order with a plan to sell it on the school sale this summer. The students in the automotive electrical classes are working on perfecting their diagnostic skills by finding circuit faults in different automotive electrical systems.

HMS Career Class

The eighth-grade Career Class at Huron Middle School focuses on learning about life as an adult.  Each student is given a computer-generated job in class and they have to learn about that job, as well as budget their finances to have a house and transportation, along with the other necessities of life.

They are currently learning about what they need to do in case there is a job loss. They have filled out a job application, a resume, and learned about interviewing for a job.

We are looking into their future, thinking about the job they would like to have someday, and researching what needs to happen to make that a reality.  There are several speakers that come into the class to share about their jobs to help the students choose that path.

There is a high percentage of people in jobs that do not like what they are doing.  They hope that the students have started to seriously think about what their future dream job is and what they need to do to pursue it. Have you followed your dream?
