Searing inks first late model win in Miller

Posted

MILLER — While the WISSOTA Midwest modifieds battled for some extra cash on Saturday at Miller Central Speedway, Cole Searing of Huron capped the night with his first main event win since moving up to the WISSOTA late model division earlier this season.
Searing, who started sixth in the field of eight cars to take the green flag, got past defending WISSOTA late model national champion Chad Becker of Aberdeen midway through the 20-lap feature race and pulled away for the win. Becker, who started along side Searing in the third row, was second.
Tyler McDonald of Huron was third, followed by Josh Skorczewski of Aberdeen and David McDonald of Huron.
Dustin Arthur of St. Lawrence and Curt Kranz of Watertown won the late model heat races.
A total of 21 Midwest modified drivers lined up for their shot at the added prize money on the line Saturday.
Mike Nichols of Watertown, who started on the inside of the second row, pulled out the win in the 25-lap feature race. Adam Brotherton of Huron was second, while Trace Johnson of Lake Preston was third.
Rounding out the top five were Scott Harrington of Waubay and Dawson Zabel of Selby.
Winning the Midwest modified heat races were Mitch Guthmiller of Aberdeen; Johnson and Nichols.
Also running for some added prize money on Saturday were the WISSOTA street stocks.
Broc Stout of Winner, who moved to the top of the all-time wins list in the division with a victory the previous week, made it two in a row to secure the extra $500 on the line for the winner. He weaved his way to the front from the eighth starting spot and held off Zach Pollock of Miller for the victory.
Jodie Michaelsohn of Aberdeen was third, followed by James Hoing of Kimball and Spence Pollock of Orient.
Stout also claimed a heat race win in the street stock division, along with John Cable of Geddes.
A pair of Watertown drivers claimed the top two spots in the WISSOTA modified feature race.
Brent Dutenhoffer, who started eighth in the 9-car field, got past Trevor Anderson to take the lead and held on for the victory.
Anderson was second, followed by Dale Ames of Huron, who started seventh, Kent Arment of Aberdeen and Mike Stearns of Hecla.
Arment and Dutenhoffer won the modified heat races.
Kelly Duffy of Winner had another strong showing in the WISSOTA super stock feature race on Saturday. After starting seventh in the 10-car field, he used the high side of the track to power to the front of the field and stayed there to earn the win.
Cody Martin of Mitchell followed Duffy across the finish line for second place. Jeremy North, who lost a motor on Friday at Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, rebounded with a third-place showing on Saturday.

Dale Tomes of Dell Rapids and Casey Hanson of Badger were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Hanson and Duffy won the super stock heat races.
A week after winning the added prize money during the Jackie Hoftiezer Memorial Race, Brenden Rassel of Woonsocket found his way back to Victory Lane on Saturday in the Pump-N-Pak pure stock main event.
Rassel started sixth and worked his way to the front for the win.
Wyatt Brooker of Tulare used a last-lap pass to claim the second spot after charging for the ninth starting position.
Mke Hammill of Miller was third, followed by Trevor Ryan of Highmore and Cody Songer of Wolsey.
