HURON — The state cleared 150,000 positive COVID-19 cases in Monday’s South Dakota Department of Health (DOH) report while Beadle County had a significant jump in active cases.

The state added 354 new positive cases, 13 new deaths, and 390 new recovered cases in Monday’s numbers. That led to the active cases in the state slightly declining to 5,819.

The new positive cases brought the state’s overall total to 150,350 during the course of the pandemic.

The state does not count re-infection as a new positive case, so that number indicates that 150,350 state residents have been infected with the virus since March 2020. For context, that is 17% of the state infected with the virus over the course of the past 19 months.

Beadle County added 17 new positive cases and five new recovered cases in Monday’s DOH report. The influx of new cases bumped the county’s active cases up to 75, a number that the county hasn’t been above in two weeks.

The Heartland Region noted 21 new positive cases and 15 new recovered cases across the seven counties in the region. That raised the active cases in the region to 164.
