Storm cleanup begins

Residents of Huron began the process of cleaning up after Thursday evening’s thunderstorm upended trees and caused significant damage to homes and buildings throughout town.

Huron City Commission’s Public Works Commissioner Drew Weinreis advised that crews are wrapping up tree removal from the city’s streets and will then begin removing large trees from boulevards. Residents are reminded that they may drop off trees and branches in the parking lot at Splash Central for collection.

Weinreis said a volunteer group is being established to assist those unable to clear storm debris. If you or anyone you know is willing to assist, text organizer Sara Waldner (605-354-7918) and share how many volunteers can assist and in what ways. Volunteers with chain saws, trailers and other equipment are needed.

Also, if you need assistance, use the same contact number and let Sara know what type of help you require.
