A thunderstorm with high winds and heavy rain prompted tornado sirens in Huron to sound Saturday night. According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, Huron received a peak wind gust of 76 mph at 6:48 p.m. The official rainfall amount for Huron is 1.02 inches, although unofficial social media reports indicate some areas received up to 3 inches of rain. Parts of the town were without power for several hours due to downed power lines.

The first photo, taken near the end of the storm, shows rainwater flooding backyards in southwest Huron.

In the next photo, taken near Walmart by Karen Davis Holmes via Facebook, the storm’s shelf cloud moves over Huron.

Next, a pickup belonging to Dan Kohlmeyer was damaged when a tree split and fell on it.

In the next two photos, throughout town the wind toppled trees and tree limbs were downed.
