Tiger golfers fifth at invite

HURON — The Huron Tiger golf team had two players in the top 10 Thursday, en route to a fifth-place finish in the Huron Invitational at Broadland Creek Golf Course.

Harrisburg’s Reese Jansa carded a two-under par 70 to take medalist honors, while O’Gorman teammates Shannon McCormick and Lauren Sutcliffe shot 71 and 73, respectively for second and third. Mitchell’s Masy Mock was fourth with a 74 and R.C. Stevens golfer Tanna Phares shot 76 for fifth.

Huron’s Bryn Huber and Karlie Bigelow were in a four-way tie for sixth at 79, along with Mattie Weidenbach of Harrisburg and Riley Zebrowski of Watertown.

O’Gorman’s 2-3 finish propelled the Lady Knights to the team title, with a four-person score of 320, edging the Mitchell Kernels by five strokes. Harrisburg shot 339 and Stevens ended with a 346, one stroke ahead of Huron’s 347. Aberdeen Central shot 348.

Libby Picek’s 94 and Kenya Bigelow’s 95 rounded out the Huron scoring on Thursday. The Tigers travel to Yankton today for the Gazelle’s Invitational.
