Tigers drop two matches in Brookings

Posted

BROOKINGS — The Huron girls’ tennis team came up on the short end of a pair of 9-0 decisions on Saturday during the Brookings Jamboree.
The Tigers opened the day against Aberdeen Central.
“We were in some matches, but couldn’t quite close things out,” Huron coach Rachel Kary said.
The Tigers nearly broke into the win column at No. 2 singles, where Audrey Rubish was edged 11-9 by Aberdeen Central’s Mirra Frohling.
Rubish also had a strong showing with No. 1 doubles partner Kayla Harvey. They challenged for the win, but fell just short with a 10-6 loss to Olvia Goetz and Frohling.
Huron then squared off against Yankton in its final match.
Once again, Rubish had the strongest outing for the Tigers in singles, dropping a 10-5 decision to Yankton’s Maggie Schaefer.
Huron’s doubles lineup was a bit altered against the Gazelles as Harvey suffered an injury and was not able to compete.
“We were able to get a few games in some matches, which was great,” Kary said. “Bianca Medina stepped in at No. 1 singles for us and Eh Ter Ler Hae stepped in at No. 1 doubles. Both did a great job for us stepping into those spots.”
The Tigers will travel face Harrisburg at 4 p.m. today and will be at the Madison Triangular at 1 p.m. on Thursday, before hosting a quadrangular at 9 a.m. Saturday at Huron Courts.
