PIERRE — The Huron Tiger tennis team split a pair of matches Tuesday at the Pierre Triangular, shutting out the Spearfish Spartans 9-0, but dropping a 7-2 decision to the host Governors.
Eh Dah won his No. 3 singles match against Pierre, outpointing Blake Judson 6-1 and 6-1, while teammate Eh Kalu defeated Ryan Warne at No. 4, 6-1, 4-6 and 10-7 in the tie-breaker.
“Eh Dah and Eh Kalu picked up good wins against Pierre,” said Tiger coach Tim Hedblom. “Reese (Uecker) played his best match of the season against Pierre and batted but lost in a third set tie-breaker.”
It was wins all around for Huron against Spearfish, as every team member added a “W” to their season record.
Brenden Schlader took the No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-0 over Tim Doerges and No. 2 flight player Reese Uecker downed Jensen Damberg 6-4, 6-2.
Dah and Kalu each notched wins, and Roger Puterbaugh continued the run for the Tigers, with a 6-0, 6-2 win and Tyrese Theus completed the singles’ sweep with a 6-1. 6-0 win at No. 6.
The Tigers earned straight-set wins in all three of the doubles matches as well, while also piling up additional victories in a handful of exhibition matches.
“Brenden and Tyrese each played a consistent match and got a good win against Spearfish,” Hedblom noted. “We have worked on being more consistent the past week and felt that showed against Spearfish.  All the boys played well in singles and doubles against Spearfish.”
