BROOKINGS — The Huron boys’ tennis team nearly came away with a sweep in three matches Saturday at the Brookings Quadrangular.
The Tigers earned an 8-1 victory against Brookings and won 6-3 against Aberdeen Central, but were edged 5-4 by Yankton.
“The boys pulled out two good Eastern South Dakota Conference dual wins against Aberdeen Central and Brookings,” Huron coach Tim Hedblom said. “We gave ourselves a chance against Yankton, but came up short.”
The Huron doubles teams were strong during the quadrangular, as the No. 1 and 2 teams went undefeated and the No. 3 team went 2-1.
“Puterbaugh and Moo Sher Say finished the regular season with a 19-2 record at flight 2 doubles,” Hedblom said. “They have played very well together all season and have put themselves in a great position going into ESD and state tournaments.”
The Tigers will close the regular season at the ESD Meet, which is scheduled for Tuesday in Harrisburg. Play is slated to begin at 8 a.m.
