Vlieger, Lien lead Huron at Roger Loecker Invite

HURON – Aberdeen Central swept the boys’ and girls’ varsity team titles Thursday at the Roger Loecker cross country invite at the Broadland Creek Golf Course.

The Golden Eagles girls’ squad defeated Yankton with 44 team points to the Gazelles’ 55 while the boys’ squad outpaced Brookings with 34 team points to the Bobcats’ 52.

Thea Chance of Yankton was the girls medal winner with a time of 20:26.71.

Huron’s Josie Vlieger had the best finish of the day for the Tigers, placing fourth in the girls’ varsity run with a time of 20:47.88.

Josh Martin of Aberdeen Central eeked out a victory over Samuel Conrad of Brookings in the boys’ varsity race. Martin finished with a time of 16:55.25 to Conrad’s 16:57.26.

TJ Lien finishing 10th for Huron in the varsity boys’ race with a time of 17:32.78.

Cheech Harman and Will Radke finished in spots No. 32 and 33, respectively, for the Tigers with times of 18:33.02 and 18:33.58.

Angel Olivo Pocay was 36th for Huron at 18:53.91, while Will Knippling was 39th at 19:07.40.

Huron will close the season at the Class AA State Meet, which is scheduled for Oct. 23 at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls.
