HURON –– Andrew Gutormson, age 60, of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls surrounded by his family. His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 10, at American Lutheran Church in Huron with burial to follow at Ideal Cemetery in Huron. Visitation, with his family present, will be from 2-4 p.m., on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron.
Andrew was born on Dec. 27, 1964, in Huron to parents Al and Leanne (Patrick) Gutormson. Andrew lived much of his life in Huron, graduating from Huron High School in 1984. He worked various jobs in the Huron area including time at S.D. Wheat Growers and Jensen’s Feed.
Andrew enjoyed his participation as a Huron Lion since 2004. He earned the LCIF award, Lion of the Year, Henry Baker Fellowship and the Fundraiser Award for Pancake Days. He was most proud of his recognition for selling $6,000 worth of tickets for Pancake Days.
Andrew enjoyed spending time with his “coffee friends.” His pastimes included hunting, cutting firewood, mowing lawns and family farm activities. He liked to forewarn family members of weather events headed their way.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Leanne Gutormson of Huron; brothers Erik Gutormson of Toronto and Tim (Kalyn) Gutormson of Brookings; and sister Janna (Rick) Volten of Viroqua, Wis.; nieces Kara Gutormson of Brookings, Kaitlin Volten of Racine, Wis., Rebecca (Tyler) Deaver of Colorado Springs, Colo., and nephews Kyle, Kurt, Kaden Gutormson of Brookings.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Gutormson and brother Samuel Gutormson.
