James Valley Christian 64, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 45
OLDHAM — The James Valley Christian Lady Vikings opened a bit of daylight headed into halftime, but broke the game open with a 24-5 third quarter Tuesday night, powering to a 64-45 win over the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Dragons in non-conference girls’ basketball action.

The Lady Vikes led by three after one quarter and by nine at the halftime break before pulling away in the second half for the win.

Alexa Goertz scored 21 points and Kaylie Robinson added 18 for JVC, as they improve to 5-3 with the win.

Julie Trygstad led the Dragons with 19 points, while Bailey Hyland came off the ORR bench and chipped in 11 points. The Dragons fall to 2-8 with the loss.

The Lady Vikes open play Friday afternoon, taking on Highmore-Harrold in the opening round of the 281 Conference Tournament.

Wolsey-Wessington 40, Aberdeen Christian 34
WOLSEY — The Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds pulled it out in the fourth quarter Tuesday night, outscoring the Aberdeen Christian Knights 12-7 in the final stanza to hold on for a 40-34 win in non-conference girls’ basketball, at the Wolsey-Wessington Gymnasium.

Kendal Uttecht scored 11 points and Payton Kemnitz added 10 to lead the Lady ‘Birds, who improve to 3-6. Lainey Uttecht claimed nine rebounds to lead both teams.

Sophia Fogarty scored nine points to lead the Knights, who remain winless at 0-7.

Wolsey-Wessington will tangle with Sanborn Central/Woonsocket on Friday evening in the opening round of the 281 Conference Tournament.

Howard 54, De Smet 40
HOWARD — The Howard Tigers jumped to a quick lead, withstood a third-quarter comeback, but pulled away in the final period for a 54-40 win over the De Smet Bulldogs Tuesday night in non-conference girls’ basketball action.

Howard, which improve to 8-3 with the win, got 19 points and eight rebounds from Abby Aslesen while Tana Hoyer added seven points and eight board and Ann Connor chipped in seven points and claimed 10 boards for the Tigers.

De Smet got a game-high 20 points from Hazel Luethmers. Mira Beck added nine points and Megan Dylla had five steals for the Bulldogs, who drop to 5-6 and are back in action next Tuesday, when they host the defending State A champion Hamlin Chargers.

Warner 37, Hitchcock-Tulare 31

TULARE — The Warner Monarchs pushed their season record to 8-0 Tuesday night, with a tough 37-31 defensive struggle over the Hitchcock-Tulare Lady Patriots.

The Lady Pats trailed for most of the game, but never lost touch with the Monarchs. Down the stretch, H-T just couldn’t find a basket when it needed it for the win.

Kyra Marcuson scored 14 points and Ava Nilsson added 11 rebounds to lead the Monarchs.

The Lady Patriots got 11 points from Cambree Hoekman, while Katelyn Schroeder, Isabel Gilbert and Rebecca Huizenga all claimed eight rebounds.

Hitchcock-Tulare will take on Iroquois/Lake Preston in the opening round of the 281 Conference Tournament Friday in Wolsey.

Miller 72, Redfield 40
MILLER — The Miller Rustlers placed three players in double figures Tuesday night, opening and early lead and pulling away for a 72-40 win over the Redfield Pheasants in boys’ basketball action at the Miller Armory.

Alex Schumacher laced 29 points - including nine three pointers - and had seven assists to lead the Rustlers, now 2-5, to the win. Derek Brueggeman added 15 points while Isaak Hunter had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Miller.

Tristen O’Daniel scored 18 points to lead the Pheasants, while Justin Ratigan added 16 points and had a game-high 14 rebounds.

Both teams are on the road Thursday night; Miller is at Sully Buttes, while Redfield makes the trip to Milbank.

RAMONA — The James Valley Christian Vikings outscored the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders 33-14 in the second half to pull away for a 65-37 victory Tuesday at Ramona.

The win moves the Vikings to 2-4 while the Raiders fall to 2-5.

JVC had three players in double-figure scoring, led by Jerrad Wallman with 17. Dak Frandsen added 15 and Isaac Korell 13 for the Vikings as the team nailed 10 three-point baskets.

Caden Hojer led the Raiders with 16 points and Cooper Merager added 13.

The Vikings will play Highmore-Harrold in the opening game of the 281 Tournament Saturday in Wolsey.

HOWARD — A pair of Class B titans clashed Tuesday night as the De Smet Bulldogs pulled out a 56-46 win over the Howard Tigers in non-conference boys’ basketball action.

De Smet got 23 points from George Jensen, while Grant Wilkinson added 16 points and snagged nine rebounds.

Howard, which falls to 7-2, was led by Kolt Koepsell’s 16 points and nine rebounds, while Luke Koepsell added 12 points.

De Smet, now 8-1, plays Hills Beaver Creek Saturday as part of the DVC Classic in Deubrook.

TULARE - The Warner Monarchs outscored the Hitchcock-Tulare Patriots 24-10 in the third quarter to pull away en route to a 59-49 victory Tuesday in Tulare.

The Monarchs move to 5-3 behind 23 points from Hunter Cramer and 18 points from Brodey Sauerwein.

The Patriots were led by Jackson Maynard with 17 points, including four three-point baskets. Devin Enander added 13 points.

The Patriots will face Sanborn Central/Woonsocket in the 281 Conference tournament Saturday at Wolsey.
