James Valley Christian 46, Deubrook Area 43
HURON — The James Valley Christian Lady Vikings got a late steal, leading to a layup by Alexa Goertz with 15 seconds to play to take the lead, then two insurance free throws by Kaylie Robinson capped a last-minute comeback and led the Lady Vikes to a 45-42 win over the Deubrook Area Dolphins Friday night, at the JVC Gymnasium.

JVC had a 6-0 mini-run to open the second quarter and held that advantage until the end of the third quarter, when Deubrook Area, using the solid inside game of Kadence Bowne, closed the period on a 5-0 run to forge a 35-35 tie headed the the final period.

Riding the crest of the momentum wave, the Dolphins quickly moved out to a 41-36 lead throughout the early part of the fourth quarter, and it was only when the Lady Vikings’ press began to pay dividends, that they were able to claw their way back into contention, setting the stage for a wild finish.

Robinson led all scorers with 22 points for the Lady Vikes, while Goertz added 16. JVC had one fewer three point field goal, but five more two-pointers, as many of their points came in the paint off Deubrook Area turnovers.

Bowne scored 20 points, doing half her damage at the charity stripe, where she was 10-for-12 in the contest. Matte Bauman added 10 for Deubrook Area, which falls to 4-6 with the loss.

JVC improves to 4-3 on the season and travels to Oldham/Ramona-Rutland on Tuesday, before opening play in the mid-season 281 Conference on Friday in Wolsey.
