Miller 67, Cheyenne-Eagle Butte 63
MILLER — The Miller Rustlers took and early lead and maintained it through heavy back-and-forth action Thursday night, notching their first win of the season, with a 67-63 triumph over the Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Braves at the Miller Armory.

Miller was led by the one-two punch of Alex Schumacher and Isaak Hunter. Schumacher led all scorers with 24 points, while Hunter filled the stat sheet with 23 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in the contest.

Davin Nelson and Derek Brueggeman each had four assists as well for the Rustlers, who improve to 1-3 with the win.

For the Braves, who fall to 4-1, Easton Lawrence had 18 points and eight rebounds, while Both Dayson Kennedy and Nehamiah Veaux added 11 points and Damien Clown chipped in 10.

Miller is off until Jan. 2, when they host Wolsey-Wessington.

CLEAR LAKE – The De Smet Bulldogs rebounded from their first loss of the season with a 18-8 first quarter that led to a 54-39 victory over the Deuel Cardinals Tuesday in Clear Lake.

The Bulldogs move to 4-1 with three players in double-figure scoring, led by Kadyn Fast’s 14 points. Grant Wilkinson and Tom Aughenbaugh each had 10 points.

Trace Van Regenmorter led De Smet with seven rebounds as the Bulldogs outrebounded the Cardinals 30-22.

The Cardinals were led by Trey Maaland with 19 points. Gabe Sather grabbed eight rebounds.

The Bulldogs will host Iroquois/Lake Preston Thursday.

WOONSOCKET – Edging out the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks 11-8 in the final period brought home a 46-43 victory Tuesday for the Mount Vernon/Plankinton Titans in Woonsocket to give the Blackhawks their first loss of the season.

The Titans moved to 3-0 behidn a huge game from Zack Baker, who scored 29 points. Tyce Feistner led MVP with six rebounds, six assists, and four steals.

Cody Slykhuis led the Blackhawks (3-1) with 12 points. Trey Moody had nine points, 12 rebounds, and three assists.

SCW won the JV game 50-34.

The Blackhawks will play Lower Brule Dec. 30 in the Huron Holiday Classic.

WESSINGTON SPRINGS – The Wessington Springs Spartans rebounded from their first loss of the season with a dominant first quarter en route to a 73-44 victory over the Highmore-Harrold Pirates Tuesday in Wessington Springs.

The victory moves the Spartans to 2-1 and drops the Pirates to 0-3.

The Spartans were led by Parker Graff with 23 points, including five three-point baskets. Ryder Michalek added 22 points and Blake Larson chipped in 10 and led the team with five rebounds.

Trake Cowan and Carson Stephenson had 13 and 12 points, respectively, to lead Highmore-Harrold. Aitor Ortega had seven points and Caleb Roth had six points.

Highmore-Harrold is off until hosting Iroquois/Lake Preston Dec. 29.

CLEAR LAKE – After a low-scoring first half for both teams, the De Smet Bulldogs girls took off in the second half, outscoring the Deuel Cardinals 35-19 to secure a 53-31 victory Tuesday in Clear Lake.

The victory moves the Bulldogs to 4-2 while the Cardinals fall to 1-4.

Megan Dylla led the Bulldogs with 18 points and Hazel Luethmers had 17 points.

Deuel was led by Camdyn Peterreins with 12 points.

The Bulldogs host Iroquois/Lake Preston Thursday.
