Area girls' teams participate in Harrisburg wrestling tournament

HARRISBURG — The Pierre Governors came away with a team title Saturday at the Harrisburg girls’ wrestling tournament, where three Heartland Area teams participated.

The Governors scored 154.5 team points for the team title, outpacing Harrisburg (141.5) and Aberdeen Central (141).

Huron finished 11th in team points with 42 while Clark/Willow Lake posted 19.5 team points and Kingsbury County scored 16 team points.

Huron had three place-winners in the varsity matchups, with Chalie Sah’s fourth place finish at 107 pounds being the top finish. Nah Htoo Ywe placed fifth at 100 pounds and Paola Fernandez took home sixth at 185 pounds.

In the junior varsity wrestling, Huron brought home first and second place in the 100-pound class, with Sep Gay defeating teammate Day Lu Paw for the title. Aleshka Oyola-Rodriguez was fifth at 114 pounds.

Dani Batchelor of Clark/Willow Lake finished second at 107 pounds while Jaidynn Giedd of Kingsbury County finished fourth at 145.

Clark/Willow Lake is back on the mat Tuesday in Arlington in a dual against Kingsbury County. Huron heads back to Harrisburg Thursday for the ESD Conference tourney.
