Colman-Egan, Chester claim 2B golf titles
DELL RAPIDS — The Colman-Egan Hawks comfortably took the title in the boys’ division of the Region 2B golf championships Tuesday and the Chester Flyers snuck in for the girls’ title, in tournaments played at the Dells Rocky Run Golf Course.

Chester’s 267 score was four strokes better than Deubrook, while Howard was third with a 272. Heartland teams De Smet finished sixth with a 329, James Valley Christian shot 346 for 8th and Wessington Springs was ninth with a 362.

Allison Andrews from Deubrook took medalist honors, carding a 79, while Howard’s Piper Thompson and Chester’s Jadyn McDonald both shot 84 to tie for second, with Thompson getting the edge in a scorecard playoff.

De Smet’s Harper Anderson just made the cut for the State B tournament, shooting 106, good for a tie for 15th and a state tourney berth.

Brooke Jennings of De Smet was one stroke back at 107 and JVC’s Addison Bartholow shot 108. Ivey Schoenfelder from De Smet shot 116, Wessington Springs’ Taylor Braun shot 118, teammate Kirstie Munsen and JVC golfer Belle Niederbaumer both scored 119.

Colman-Egan golfers Camden Schmidt and Taylor Kriech finished 1-2, with Schmidt’s 76 edging his teammate by a single stroke for top honors on the day. Deubrook’s Gavin Landmark shot 78 for third and Lane Hodges of Howard shot 79 for fourth. Blake Larson from Wessington Springs shot 80 and De Smet golfer Kasen Janssen finished fifth and sixth to lead Heartland finishers.

In addition to Larson and Jannssen, other area golfers to qualify for the state tournament include Brock Krueger and JD Thompson of Wessington Springs, while Tom Augenbaugh and Cael Schoenfelder of De Smet also qualified.

Ethan Bartholow was the top JVC scorer, with a 95 and missing the state meet by two strokes.

The girls’ Class B State Tournament is set for Watertown’s Cattail Crossing Golf Course, while the boys’ will finish the season across town at the Prairie Winds Golf Course.

Gregory, Burke win in Region 4B
MITCHELL — The Gregory Gorillas boys’ and the Burke Lady Cougars came out on top of the Region 4B golf tournaments Tuesday, at Lakeview Golf Course.

The Gorillas shot a team score of 230, 14 strokes over par, easily outdistancing the Hanson Beavers, who ended with a 247 team score. Platte/Geddes was third with a 249. The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks shot a team total of 298, landing them in eighth place.

A Gregory player took medalist honors as well, as Kade Stukel carded a 73 to end atop the podium. Shad Bosma of Corsica-Stickney shot 75 and Ben Wilber of Hanson took a scorecard playoff for third, as both he and Eli Fogel of Gregory shot matching 76s.

Ethan Schmiedt led the Blackhawks with a 91, good for 22nd place, while teammate Bryce Larson carded a 102. Jared Lavine had a 105 and Evan Easton was a stroke back with a 106.

Abigail Svatos from Andes Central/Dakota Christian took medalist honors in 4B girls’ action. Her 83 edged Burke players Adisyn Indahl’s 85 and Olivia Bull’s 89.

The Lady Cougars waltzed home with the title, shooting a team score of 280, posting a 44-stroke margin over runner up Mount Vernon/Plankinton’s 324, while ACDC took third with a 325.

SCW finished 7th as a team. They were led by Tatiana Roberts’ 127, while teammate Summer Beekman shot 128 and Whitney Hageman carded a 158.

Both the boys’ and girls’ Class B tournaments will take place June 5-6 in Watertown. The girls will play on the Cattail Crossing Golf Course, while the boys will challenge Prairie Winds.
