Area teams compete in Big Bo Classic

WOLSEY — A full slate of girls’ and boys’ basketball games took place Thursday, at the Big Bo Classic in Wolsey.
Herreid-Selby Area 47, Kimball-White Lake 36
The Herreid-Selby Area Wolverines girls forged a nine-point halftime lead, saw most of evaporate in the third quarter, but pulled away in the fourth period for a 47-36 win over the Kimball-White Lake Wildkats Thursday at the Big Bo Classic.
K-WL held a 10-8 lead after one quarter, but the Wolverines opened up a 23-14 lead at the half. The lead shrank to three points, 27-24, after three quarters, but a 20-12 run in the final stanza led to the win.
Rachel Fiedler scored 17 points and Charlie Tisdall added 15 for the Wolverines, who improve to 3-2 on the season with the win.
Kennedy Leiferman had a game-high 19 points and Carly Beckmann chipped in 10 for the Wildkats, who saw a four-game winning streak snapped, as they fall to 4-2.
Kimball-White Lake 66, Iroquois 33
The Kimball-White Lake Wildkats jumped out to an early lead and built it throughout, earning a 66-33 win over the Iroquois Chiefs in boys’ basketball action at the Big Bo Classic.
The Wildkats, now improved to 4-1 on the season, were led by Kory Peter with 21 points and seven rebounds. Javen Holan added 17 points, while Kordel Kiehn had 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Jacob Bich led the Chiefs, now 1-4, with 10 points and three steals.
Potter County 59, James Valley Christian 24
The Potter County Lady Battlers towered over the James Valley Christian Lady Vikings, 59-24, at the Big Bo Classic on Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Battlers jumped out to a 20-2 lead after the first quarter, and kept the Lady Vs at bay the rest of way to earn their first win of the seaon.
Karin Smith led the Battlers with 15 points, while Kori Hansen added 12 and Samantha Stethem chipped in 11.
JVC, now 1-5 on the season, was led by Brenna Held with eight points.

Potter County 64, James Valley Christian 54
The Potter County Battlers put five players in double figures Thursday, en route to a 64-54 win over the James Valley Christian Vikings in boys basketball action at the Big Bo Classic.
JVC fell behind early, facing a 13-point deficit after one quarter, but clawed its way back to within five points after three quarters, but the rally ended there as the Battlers outscored the Vikings 19-14 in the final period.
Dawson Simon and Calen Decker each scored 13 points for the Battlers, who go to 3-2 with the win, while Ben Krueger and Kolten Kirby each added 12 and Cole Nafziger chipped in 10 points in a balanced Potter County effort.
Josh Wieting led all scorers with 18 points for the Vikings, while Michael Waldner added 10 points, as JVC falls to 1-4 on the season.
The Vikings will face Gayville-Volin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday as part of the Huron Holiday Classic at Huron Arena.

Leola-Frederick Area 51, Wolsey-Wessington 35
The Leola-Frederick Area Titans took a 51-35 victory against the Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds in girls basketball at the Big Bo Classic.
At the end of the first set, the Titans were already ahead by double and the trend was kept throughout the game. The second and third quarters ended 33-17 and a 20-point lead finishing quarter three at 41-21, until the final quarter when the Warbirds were defeated by 16 points.
Leading the Titans was Cassandra Hinz with 15 points, Michaela Podoll followed with eight, while Maddie Norden added seven points.
Cortney Sprecher led the Warbirds with 13 points, while Taylor Sprecher added 10 points.
Wolsey-Wessington 71, Leola-Frederick Area 61
WOLSEY — The Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds grabbed their third victory of the season with a 71-61 lead against the Leola-Frederick Area Titans, in boys’ basketball at the Big Bo Classic Thursday night.
The Warbirds improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Titans dropped to 0-4.
Both teams had players finish with double figure points to wrap up an array of girls’ and boys’ basketball games played all day Thursday in Wolsey.
Lynden Williams was the top player of the game with 24 points for the Warbirds, followed by Brevan Hooks with 12 points and Tyler Babcock with 11, while Carter Mehling added ten points.
The Titans were led by Tanner Geffre with 21 points, while Hayden Podoll and Trevor Sumption each added 11 points.
The Warbirds will be back in action on Thursday, when they will take on the James Valley Christian Vikings in Huron.
Leola-Frederick Area will face the Ethan Rustlers in the Huron Holiday Classic at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Huron Arena.
