WEBSTER — With three runners in the top 15, Clark/Willow Lake won the girls’ title during the Region 1A Cross Country Meet on Wednesday.
The Cyclones finished with 25 points to edge Milbank by five points for the top spot. Aberdeen Roncalli was third with 39 points and claimed the final qualifying team spot.
Ashleynn Batchelor of Milbank won the region girls’ title with a time of 19:12.60, while Kamryn Nesheim of Clark/Willow Lake was second at 19:59.14.
Cadence Bochek was fourth for the Cyclones at 20:20.30, while Hadley Gjerde was ninth at 21:12.36 and Emma Bochek was 12th at 21:44.90.
Also qualifying to compete in the team competition at the state meet for Clark/Willow Lake were Nevaeh Reitz and Danielle Batchelor.
Milbank had four of the top five runners to win the Region 1A boys’ title with 13 points. Deuel was second at 62, while Clark/Willow Lake was third at 62.
Payton Brown of Milbank won the boys’ varsity race in 16:36.04.
Cooper Pommer was the top runner for the Cyclones, finishing sixth at 18:27.79. Taylor Merkel was 13th at 19:08.30, while Damian Severson was 16th at 19:22.74.
Payton Moore of Redfield earned a spot in the field for the state meet, finishing 15th on Wednesday with a time of 19:19.43.
Also advance for Clark/Willow Lake via the team competition are Logan Seefeldt, Oliver Reitz and Waylan Olson.
The Class A State Meet will be held Oct. 21 at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls.

Region 1B
WEBSTER — The Northwestern boys and the Frederick Area girls won titles during the Region 1B Cross Country Meet in Wednesday.
Northwestern finished with 19 points to win the boys’ title, while Deubrook Area was second at 23 and Frederick Area was third at 27.
Hitchcock-Tulare was sixth at 63, followed by James Valley Christian at 64.
Nathan Melius of Northwestern won the varsity boys’ race in 17:46.15.
Josiah Weibe of Hitchcock-Tulare and Kaden Ober of James Valley Christian earned spots in the field for the state meet.
Wiebe was 14th at 19:16.62, while Ober was 18th at 19:30.75.
Frederick Area and Northwestern both finished with 26 points in ghe girls’ division, but Frederick Area earned the top spot via tiebreaker.
Warner was third at 29 points, clinching the third and final qualifying team spot with a tiebreaker over James Valley Christian, which also had 29 points.
Ella Boekelheide of Northwestern won the varsity girls’ race in 19:24.94.
The Lady Vikings had three runners qualify for the state meet.
Hadasah Olson was fourth for JVC at 20:51.28, while Lily Swanson was eighth at 21:34.28 and Rhayonna Hood was 17th at 22:35.18.
The Class B State Meet will be held Oct. 21 at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls.

Region 2B
ARLINGTON — Arlington snagged the top spot in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions during the Region 2B Cross Country Meet held Wednesday.
The Cardinals had 24 points to win the boys’ title, while McCrossan had 33 points to edge Chester by a point for the second spot.
De Smet was fourth at 45, while Iroquois/Lake Preston was ninth at 78.
Caden Schwader won the varsity boys’ race for Howard in 17:52.22.
Conner Giedd was the top runner for De Smet at earned a spot in the state meet by finishing 11th at 19:32.12.
Also qualifying for the Bulldogs was Chase Temme. He was 17th at 20:02.46.
Arlington had four of the top 11 runners to win the Region 2B girls’ title.
The Cardinals had 12 points to win the title, while Dell Rapids St. Mary claimed the second spot with 27 and Chester was third at 27.
De Smet finished fifth at 58, while Iroquois/Lake Preston was eighth at 101.
Emery Larson of Chester won the girls’ varsity race in 18:32.33, while Arlington teammates Kaeln Ulschmid and Emarie Vincent were second and third, respectively, with times of 19:51.61 and 20:43.91.
Adalyn Gross earned a trip to state for De Smet, finishing eight at 21:40.19.
The Class B State Meet will be held Oct. 21 at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls.

Region 4A
CHAMBERLAIN — Pierce Baumberger and Alex Schumacher finished first and second to lead the Miller boys to the title during the Region 4A Cross Country Meet on Wednesday.
With three of the top six runners in the field, the Rustlers finished with 32 points. North Central was second at 50 and McLaughlin was third at 57.
Baumberger turned in a winning time of 16:44 for the Rustlers, while Schumacher finished at 16:52.
Isaiah Gortmaker was sixth for Miller at 17:52.
Rounding out the lineup for the Rustlers were Chase Hurd and Jaymin VanDerWerff.
Chamberlain had four runners in the top 10 to win the Region 4A girls’ title with 16 points. Kimball/White Lake was second at 21 and Platte-Geddes was third at 66.
Miller was sixth at 79.
Kinsey Evans won the girls’ varsity race for Chamberlain in 19:09.
Miller had a pair of state qualifiers. Madeline Nye finished 10th at 21:10 and Gabby Werdel finished 16th at 21:53.
The Class A State Meet will be held Oct. 21 at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls.

GETTYSBURG — Highmore-Harrold won the boys’ title during the Region 4B Cross Country Meet on Wednesday.
The Pirates finished with 15 points, while Potter County was second at 22.
Nicholas Schlachter of Potter County won the boys’ varsity race in 16:39.70, while Gavin Hirsch of Herreid/Selby Area was second at 17:08.60.
Jimmy Burma of Sunshine Bible Academy was fourth at 18:27.30, while teammate Reagan Sandness was 11th at 19:04.50.
Brooks McPeak was sixth for Highmore-Harrold at 18:38.40, while teammate Jordan Erfman was seventh at 18:50.10. Carter Webb was ninth for the Pirates at 18:56.00.
Edwyn Reyes of Wolsey-Wessington was eighth at 18:54.90, while Ranick Fjerstad of Wessington Springs was 14th at 19:31.90.
Carson Stephenson and Jonah Webb of Highmore-Harrold finished in spots No. 19 and 20, respectively, with times of 19:49.40 and 19:50.00.
With five of the top 10 runners, Potter County ran away with the team title in the girls’ division with seven points.
Herreid/Selby was second at 22, followed by Highmore-Harrold at 33 and Wessington Springs at 35.
Potter County teammates Dannika Kaup and Emma Schlachter were first and second, respectively, with times of 19:12.60 and 19:38.50.
Autumn Fallis of Highmore-Harrold was third at 19:49.10, while teammate Jaylynn Knox was 13th at 23:09.80. April Fallis was 19th for the Pirates at 25:12.00.
Kendal Uttecht was seven for Wolsey-Wessington at 21:41.10.
Alexis Roesler and Abby Knox were No. 11 and 12, respectively, for Wessington Springs with times of 22:40.40 and 22:47.30.
Masyn Mebius was 15th for the Lady Spartans at 23:57.00, while Ella Kolousek was 17th at 24:28.30.
The top three teams and the top 20 individuals qualify for the Class B State Meet, which is scheduled for Oct. 21 at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls.
