James Valley Christian 3, Iroquois/Lake Preston 0
HURON — The James Valley Christian Lady Vikings pulled out a sweep over the Iroquois/Lake Preston Sharks in the season opener Tuesday at the JVC gym.

Set scores were 25-22, 25-19, and 25-16 in three hard-fought games that saw both teams take long streaks controlling the scoring.

JVC was led on the attack by Cora Hofer and Daril Frandsen with eight kills apiece. Hofer added a pair of blocks.

Alexa Goertz had seven kills and a pair of service aces on 16 of 17 serving.

I/LP was paced by Adison Moore with nine kills and nine digs.

The Lady Vikings (1-0) will travel to Flandreau on Saturday for the Alpha 4 Tourney while the Sharks will host Arlington Thursday at Iroquois.

Florence/Henry 3, Redfield 0
HENRY — The Florence/Henry Falcons pulled off a season-opening home sweep against the Redfield Pheasants on Tuesday in Henry by scores of 25-22, 25-15, and 25-11.

The Falcons (1-0) were led by Caylin Kelly with 15 kills and 19 digs while Taylor Watson added 11 kiss and three service aces.

Redfield was paced by Katie Rozell, who recorded three kills and three blocks. Kinley Smith also had three kills and served up two aces.

Redfield (0-1) travels to Aberdeen Roncalli on Thursday.

Miller 3, Kimball/White Lake 0
MILLER — The Miller Rustlers, who are receiving votes in the preseason Class “A” poll, swept by the Kimball/White Lake WiLdKats 25-18, 25-15, and 25-22 Tuesday in Miller.

Aleah Schlecter led the Miller attack with 10 kills while Gracen Werdel added nine.

Heather Resel set up the Miller offense with 34 assists and Jolie Palmer nailed three service aces to lead the Rustlers, now 1-0.

The WiLdKats (0-1) were led by Harley Namanny with seven kills.

The Rustlers are on the road Thursday at Winner.

Hanson Early Bird Tournament
HANSON — Two area teams opened play Tuesday in the Hanson Early Bird Tournament in Hanson, with both teams falling in straight sets.

The Wessington Springs Lady Spartans put up a strong fight before falling to the Avon Lady Pirates 26-24 and 26-24.

Avon was led by Courtney Sees with 13 kills and 10 digs. Kenna Kocmich set up the Lady Pirate offense with 24 assists.

The Lady Spartans were paced by eight kills and two service aces from Avery Orth. Caroline Witte recorded six blocks and Hannah Heezen recorded 13 digs.

The Freeman Flyers picked up a 25-19, 25-19 sweep over the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks.

The Flyers’ strong defensive effort was led by Zenovia Butler with 15 digs. Cami Fransen set up the Freeman offense with 13 assists.

Liz Boschee led the Blackhawks with six kills while Makenzie Schley had 11 digs and 10 assists.

The Lady Spartans will meet with Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Thursday while the Blackhawks will face Freeman Academy/Marion.
