Trio of area wrestlers claim titles in Aberdeen
ABERDEEN — Three area wrestlers won titles during the Lee Wolf Invitational on Saturday.
Aberdeen Central claimed the team title with 247.5 points, while Watertown was second at 172. Rounding out the top fivein the 17-team event were Bismarck Century (N.D.) at 142.5, winner at 141 and West Central at 135.5.
Clark/Willow Lake had 94.5 points to share the seventh spot with Sisseton.
Redfield was 10th at 81.5, followed by Miller/Highmore-Harrold at 77, Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington at 58 and Huron at 40.
Huron had four placers, including Moses Gross, who won an individual championship at 150 pounds.
Carter Nelson was seventh for the Tigers at 113, while Emrick DeDeyne at 106 and Ryan Florey at 175 were eighth.
Josh Kannegieter won a title for Clark/Willow Lake at 190, while Cade Gaikowski at 106 and Elliot Bratland at 165 were second. Kaden Wookey was fourth at 113 and Cooper Pommer was fifth at 120.
Jacksen Carter won a championship for Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington at 132. Holden Havlik was third at 215, while Ashton Hill was sixth at 138 and Ethan Rearick was seventh at 144.
Camden Murray was second for Redfield at 215, while Conner Zens was fourth at 138, Collin Dean was fifth at 165 and Kasey Hermann was fifth at 126.
Also placing for the Pheasants were Maddon Odland at 106 (seventh); Chace Odland at 113 (eighth); and Dalton Rathjen at 285 (sixth).
Kellan Hurd was second for Miller/Highmore-Harrold at 144, while Talon Ping at 126 and Jordan Schafer at 138 were third.
Chase Hurd was fourth for the Bandits at 132, while Jaymin VanDerWerff was seventh at 120 and Cade Werdel was eighth at 132.
Huron travels to face Watertown on Thursday.
Girls
Miller/Highmore-Harrold was fifth, while Huron was eighth at the Lee Wolf Girls’ Invitational on Saturday.
Pierre won the 18-team event with 206.5, while Aberdeen Central was second at 174.5. Rounding out the top five were Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon at 135, Watertown at 110.5 and Miller/Highmore-Harrold at 83.
Huron was eighth at 64.5, while Clark/Willow Lake was 10th at 46 and Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington was 16th at 16.5.
Hailey Schafer was third for Miller/Highmore-Harrold at 100 pounds.
Dana Wallace was second at 120 and Morgan Werdel was fourth at 126. Gabby Werdel at 128 and Kyler Foreman at 152 were fifth and Hannah Zeigler at 132 was sixth.
Chalie Sah was third for Huron at 107, while Say Glay was fifth at 132 and Moo B Say was sixth at 120. Reva McGaugh was seventh at 114, while Mya Say at 100 and Aleshka Oyola-Rodriguez at 114 were eighth.
Kadee Frankfurth at 100 and Cadence Bochek at 120 were fourth for Clark/Willow Lake, while Emma Bochek was seventh at 107.
Bailey Yost was sixth at 114 for Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington.
Doland girls win team title at Groton Area Invitational
GROTON — With a pair of individual champions, Doland won the team title at the Groton Area Invitational on Saturday.
Doland, which had three placewinners finished with 31 points. Ortonville (Minn.) had 23 points to edge Sully Buttes by two points for the second spot in the 11-team event.
Groton Area was fourth at 20, followed by Canistota at 10.
Kyla Logan at 138 pounds and Reganne Miles at 152 won individual championships for Doland, while Gracelynn Decker was second at 114.
Boys
Clark/Willow Lake finished third, while the Huron junior varsity was fifth at the Groton Tournament on Saturday.
Groton Area won the event with 291 pointss, while Watertown JV was second at 185.5. Clark/Willow Lake was third at 115.5, followed by Potter County at 109.5 and Huron JV at 91.5.
Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington was 12th at 36.5 and Redfield was 14th at 34.
Isaac Johnson at 132 pounds and Austin Vig at 144 won individual championships for Clark/Willow Lake, while Benny Pommer at 126 and Damian Severson at 128 were second.
Kooper Wookey was third for the Cyclones at 113, while Aksei Gjerde was fifth at 113.
Ben Cardona won an individual title for Huron JV at 190. Kadrian Moreno was third at 120 for the Tigers, while Ernest Wallette was fourth at 113 and Noah Hofer at 106 and Stephen Martens at 120 were fifth.
Axel Deyoung at 90-98, Jace Edgar at 106 and Rollie Betten at 285 were fourth for Redfield. Kevin Brabant was fifth at 150 and Brantley Schwartz was sixth at 106.
Roman Rearick at 144, Hayes Christensen at 165 and Jasper Gran at 285 were fifth for Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington.
