HURON — On a typical low testing day on Monday, the state added 359 new positive cases, but more notably, after topping 5,000 active cases for the first time on Friday, South Dakota has now topped 6,000 active COVID-19 cases in the state, with 6,062, per the Monday numbers from the South Dakota Department of Health (DOH).
The state added two new deaths and twenty new hospitalizations on Monday. The 278 state residents currently hospitalized due to the virus is the highest number the state has registered.
Beadle County had low testing numbers and registered just two new positives on Monday, bringing the overall positives in the county to 960. Three new recovered cases in the county were announced in the DOH numbers, which brought active cases in Beadle down to 139.
The Heartland region added 13 new positive cases across the seven counties. With 23.08% of the region’s population now tested, there are 287 active virus cases.
