RAPID CITY — Charleigh Brewer of Wessington competed in the 5-State Breeders Futurity, which was held July 13-16 in Rapid City. More than 700 contestants took part in the event, which included breakaway roping, poles and barrels.
Brewer, who is 13, was fourth in the breakaway roping average after winning the second go. She was fourth in the all girls’ breakaway roping average.
Brewer was the youngest competitor in the Futurity and was seventh in the average, after finishing seventh in the first go and fourth in the short go.
The roping was open to just 4-and 5-year-old horses that had never competed before 2023. Brewer competed on a horse she foaled, raised, broke and trained on her own, which is named Fein Moon Shine.
