Brookings ends Post 7's season in region tourney

BROOKINGS – The Brookings Post 74 Bandits swept the Huron Post 7 Tigers Thursday and Friday to knock the Tigers out of the postseason.

The Bandits scored seven runs in the first inning of Thursday’s game, pushing the score to 16-0 for the victory behind a strong performance on the mound by Brookings’ Nathan Lease.

Jack Pedersen made the start for Huron, allowing 12 runs over 2 1/3 innings, five of those runs being earned. Pedersen allowed seven hits and two walks, striking out two. Logan Leyendecker pitched the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits, striking out one.

Huron’s offense totaled just three base runners, led by Ethan Busch’s triple.

The Tigers battled early on with the Bandits in Friday’s game, even holding a 2-1 lead after the second inning. Brookings scored three runs in the top of the third and never looked back in a 13-4 victory.

Mason Davis made the start for Huron, going four innings, allowing nine runs on seven hits and three walks. He struck out four. Layne Wenzel pitched the final three innings, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks, striking out one.

Busch led the Huron offense with a pair of singles.

Post 7 ends the season with an 11-25 record.
