HURON — Carol Campbell, age 73, of Huron, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Huron Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her family, after a short battle with cancer.
Her Celebration of Life Service will take place at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. Visitation is two hours prior to the service on Tuesday evening. A private graveside service will take place at Graceland Cemetery in rural Tulare.
Carol was born November 5, 1950 in Colorado Springs, Colo., and was adopted by Wayne and Florine Campbell and lived in Midway, Colo. - between Hotchkiss and Paonia - for 18 years.
She attended Paonia schools first through the twelfth grade and graduated in 1969. She had a loyal group of friends who were pals for life. She also had a younger brother, Rob who was one of her best friends.
Carol attended Mesa College but left to try other things. She was in assembly work, sewing for Marmot and flower deliverery for Johnson’s House of Flowers for many years. She was a dedicated worker and made many lifelong friends at these jobs as well.
She lived in Florida for a time, but always came back to Colorado, where she became a caregiver for her mother and stepfather, along with working for Johnson’s.
She ultimately found her biological family in South Dakota in December of 2019 and moved there in April 2022 to be closer to her new family.
She quickly made friends in the Huron and Tulare communities.
She joined the Huron Garden Club and the Huron Quilters. She moved into a wonderful neighborhood, surrounded by friendly people.
Carol is survived by sisters, Paula (Daryl) Ames, Tulare and Peg Brooker, Tulare; a brother, Dave (Becky) Brooker, Tulare; her nephews: Jake (Michelle) Ames and their children Haley, Remy and Jacob, Rapid City; Dan Ames, Rapid City; Wyatt Brooker, Huron and Andy Brooker, Tulare; along with her loving family and friends in Colorado. She also leaves behind her canine companion, Duke.
Preceding her in death are her biological parents, Leroy and Elsie Brooker, adopted parents Wayne Campbell, Florine Harwood and a brother, Rob.
