HURON — Carol Pevestorf, age 91, of Huron, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Saturday, May 25, 2024.
Her funeral service is 2 p.m., Saturday, June 1, at the First Presbyterian Church, with burial to follow in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, May 31, at Kuhler Funeral Home, with family present during that time. A prayer service is set for 7 p.m. Friday evening. Visitation is also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Carol Maybelle Paye was born May 26, 1932, to Silas J. and Lorena K. (Brodersen) Paye at Huron. Her father passed away when she was 6½ months old. Carol was raised on the family farm by her mother and three brothers.
She attended rural schools and graduated from the 8th grade at the Bloodgood School. In 1947, Carol’s mother married the Beadle County Sheriff and moved the family to the County Sheriff’s residence near the county jail. Carol graduated from Huron High School in 1951.
On August 5, 1951, Carol married Floyd Pevestorf in Huron. They resided in Huron their entire lives.
Carol and Floyd spent a lot of time together camping, fishing, and gardening. They also spent 6 years wintering in Arizona. Carol enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and doing crafts. She made many wedding cakes for her friends and relatives. One of Carol’s most enjoyable pastimes, however, was attending her grandkids and great-grandkids sports events and activities.
Carol was a life-time member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Belles and Beaus Square Dancing Club, and a life member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She had a passion for the S.D. State Fair and worked there as an assistant in the Women’s Building, a vendor selling Watkins products, Gate Worker and later as a volunteer for the VFW driving courtesy golf carts.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her three daughters, Linda (Tim) Traver of Hitchcock, Marla (Terry) Bawdon and Nancy (Kenny) Shoultz both of Huron; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Damion) Heathcote of Henderson, Nev., Tim (Tammy) Paulson of Gillette, Wyo., Dawn (Josh) Reimer of Gillette, Wyo., Wendy (Matt) Risetter of Redfield, Kayla (Matt) White of Laramie, Wyo., Josh (Shannon) Shoultz of Westport and Tara (Michael) Eggleston of Virgil; one step-granddaughter, Leah (Jordan) Kienow of Miller; 15 great-grandchildren: Payge Heathcote, Devan Paulson, Alexis and Jadie Reimer, Jazilynn, Kylie, MattyJo, Brady and Savannah Risetter, Clara White, Casey and Eric Shoultz and Kailynn, Morgan and Rylan Eggleston; six step-great-grandchildren: Carlie and Nolan Songer, Kayla Crook, Chantel McQuin, Colton Acuna and Nova Kienow; two great-great-grandchildren, Bentley Roe and Braylen Nelson; four step-great-great-grandchildren, MaShia, Baedden and Jaelah McQinn and Brielle Crook; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Paye; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd in 2009; her dad, Silas Paye in 1932; her mother, Lorena Cotton in 1989; and her stepdad, Buell Cotton; three brothers, Russell (Catherine) Paye, Lloyd Paye and Donald (Lily) Paye; and one step-brother, Dean Cotton.
