Chamber promotes Small Business Saturday

HURON — Small Business Saturday is an annual shopping tradition dedicated to supporting small businesses. Founded by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday is celebrated every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, which this year is Nov. 24.
Each year, American Express invites community organizations, businesses and chambers of commerce to pledge to be Neighborhood Champions, and provides them with resources and marketing materials to promote the day. The Huron Chamber & Visitors Bureau has taken the pledge to be a 2018 Neighborhood Champion and has distributed marketing and promotional materials to local small retail businesses.

A kickoff event has been planned for Friday, Nov, 23, from 3 to 8 p.m., at the Chamber just prior to the Parade of Lights. Seasonal treats and shop local bags with specials from local small business will be given away.
“It’s about more than just shopping,” says Laurie Shelton, CEO of the Huron Chamber & Visitors Bureau. “It’s about supporting our local economy and promoting a unique, thriving and diverse community. By shopping or dining locally, you’re helping to enhance our parks, roads and sidewalks in addition to funding public service workers such as firefighters and police officers. Additionally, dollars spent at small businesses are much more likely to be recirculated in our own community.”
“Remember to stop in to the Huron Chamber & Visitors Bureau on Nov. 23, from 3 to 8 p.m., as we kickoff Small Business Saturday and our 2018 Shop Huron & Win campaign,” added Shelton.
