MITCHELL — Chance Derrick, 23, of Mitchell, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018, in Mitchell.
His memorial service was Monday, November 5, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. Burial, with military honors, followed in Greenlawn Cemetery at Redfield.
Chance Alan Derrick was born March 4, 1995, in Dallas, Texas to Johnny Derrick and Valorie Orquiz. He lived in New Mexico with his grandparents until they moved to Redfield in 2008.
In 2012, he joined the South Dakota Army National Guards. He graduated from Redfield High School in 2013. He attended MTI in Mitchell and became a welder. He worked for Trail King Industries until July 2018, when he went to work for AKG Welding. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and hanging out with his family and friends.
He is survived by his son, Colton Derrick; parents, Johnny (Nancy) Derrick of Madera, Calif., and Valorie Orquis of Artesia, N.M.; sisters, Shelisty Lattion, Charmayne Derrick, and Ashlyn Meshoto; grandparents, Raymond (Janice) Derrick of Alamogordo, N.M.; aunt and uncle, Donna (Steve) Hague; great-grandmothers, Helen Franklin, and Bonnie Derrick.
Arrangements were entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield.
