HURON –– The Huron City Commission approved multiple board members of city committees through the consent agenda on Monday. Darrell Raschke and Jeff Burns were approved to serve additional four-year terms on the Lake & Riverfront Committee. Jessica Hotchkiss and Tom Brantner were approved to serve an additional 4-year term on the Community Improvement Committee. Drew Weinreis was approved to fill the remainder of a term on that committee that expires on June 1, 2027. Finally, Jan Johnson was approved to serve a 3-year term on the Historical Preservation Board.
The meeting opened with a community member expressing frustration with a perceived lack of communication from the city and city entities regarding the timeline of the Dakota Ave. project north of Market St. Mayor Mark Robish attempted to explain that much of the project is on a timeline that originates with the state, but that he would look into better ways to communicate with affected businesses.
The commission approved three items from assistant engineer Dennis Bennett. The first was a bid for asphalt emulsion, with the low bid submitted by Jebro, Inc. in the amount of $53,147.64.
The next two items from Bennett were payment requests. The first was to BX Civil & Construction for work on Dakota Ave. in the amount of $563,660.30. The second was a payment request from HK Solutions for sewer main lining in the amount of $33,583.40.
The commission also

• Accepted the termination of the city attorney contract with David Wheeler, effective May 31.
• Approved seasonal hiring for Memorial Pro Shop, Parks & Recreation, and Splash Central.
The commission then met in a work session to discuss changes to the door-to-door and temporary commercial vendor ordinances, and they concluded the meeting with an executive session to consult with legal counsel.
