HURON – The Huron City Commission met for a brief meeting Monday over the noon hour. Part of that brief meeting was approving 18 appointments for 10 municipal boards.
Larry Picek was approved for a five-year reappointment to the airport board. Commissioners Shawn Harvey and Drew Weinreis were approved for three-year terms on the alternate board of adjustment. Amy Fullerton and Mark Robish were approved for four-year terms on the community improvement committee.
Dwayne Bennett, Travis Oxandaburu, and Chad Schroder each were appointed to three-year terms on the employee safety committee. Ben Nelson and Marlene Fullerton were appointed to three-year terms on the golf advisory board. The historic preservation board received reappointments for Louise Van Poll and Jennifer Littlefield for four-year terms.
Roger Chase was appointed for a five-year term on the housing and redevelopment board. Chase was also approved for a three-year appointment to the Huron Community Campus board, along with Becki Lemke and Marilyn Hoyt. Shanna Sterrett was approved for a three-year term on the Huron Get Fit committee and Barbara Blaedorn received approval for a three-year term on the library board.
Commissioners approved a request from the Huron Police Department to apply for overtime reimbursement funding through the U.S. Marshal Service to cover mandatory sex offender compliance checks within the city and throughout Beadle County.
Commissioners also:
• Approved a raffle filed by Beadle County Sportsman’s Club.
• Approved a proposal from Quadient for the postage machine upgrade and new 63-month lease for $272.91 monthly.
City offices will be closed today for Independence Day, and solid waste pickup scheduled for today will be picked up on Wednesday, July 5.
