HURON –– In a brief meeting Monday, the Huron City Commission approved the lease agreement with NB Golf LLC for golf carts for the 2025 season. Purchasing carts through lease was discussed previously by the commission after a cart shortage last season while renting raised concerns about available carts for tournaments on top of day-to-day cart needs at Broadland Creek Golf Course.
The commission approved the lease agreement for 30 carts.
During public forum, Commissioner Rich Bragg reminded Huron residents that green yard waste bins are picked up on Wednesdays through the month of April, and on May 5, pickup of yard waste will change to the day that garbage/recycle is picked up for an address.
Bragg also reminded residents that the new transfer station is open for public use at 1552 Fourth St. SE at the same hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Commissioners approved a quit claim deed for property in the Southtown Addition from the city to Greater Huron Development Corporation.
Fire Chief Ron Hines presented a capital recommendation to fix the heating and cooling at the fire station as it is currently not working properly. Barton’s had the low price of the bids received and will do the repair work.
Commissioners also:
• Approved regular status of Kerri Hjellum, Accounting Technician, effective April 20.
• Approved posting internally for two Water-Sewer Maintenance 3 positions.
• Accepted the voluntary resignation of part-time library clerk Elizabeth Pollock.
The commission then adjourned from the public meeting to engage in an executive session regarding personnel.
