City approves restoration work at Splash Central

Posted

HURON –– The Huron City Commission approved a restoration project at Splash Central water park for $68,500 Monday evening during the regular meeting.

Zach Olson, the Splash Central manager, explained the change to removing and repainting the green waterslide and multiple features in the kid pool and the surrounding area of the green waterslide. This was a change from the original budget of $188,209 for the project due to delaying a gel coating for the green waterslide to inspect the slide and ensure the money is being spent wisely. The gel coating will fit within the 2026 budget if the decision is to go forward with that project.

Commissioner Drew Weinreis mentioned in public forum that there will be a public forum for the upcoming city commission election on Saturday at 9 a.m. Weinreis is running as incumbent against challenger Rhonda Kludt, and the two will speak to city residents on Saturday.

Assistant city engineer Dennis Bennett presented a pay request from Star Logistics LLC in the amount of $761, 185.09 for work on the transfer station. Bennett stated that the new solid waste transfer station is functional and being utilized already with just a few more items to finish up once the thaw goes out. This was approved.

The commission approved an amendment to a plat of Stony Run Park west of Wal-mart. The plat had been approved, but final boundary lines drawn by the surveyor were not those of the land owner, and the plat was redrawn.
