City encourages voting today in mayoral election

HURON — The Huron City Commission held a brief meeting on Monday evening. City Finance Director Paullyn Carey encouraged all city residents to vote at the Huron Arena in Tuesday’s mayoral and school board races from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The commission approved a bid for concrete crack sealing submitted by Lot Pros, Inc. of Fergus Falls for $51,243,95, which is under the budget for the project.

Parks & Rec director Chad Shroder submitted a resolution for support of a grant application to replace playground equipment at Winter Park. The city’s cost would be $19,889.08 if the grant is awarded. This was approved.

Chief of Police in training Derek Layher presented a grant through the South Dakota Attorney General’s Drug Control Fund to upgrade the interview recording system currently utilized by the Huron Police Department. The grant would fully fund the project if awarded. This was approved.

Commissioners also:
• Approved 17 part-time seasonal hires for 2024 season.

• Approved an amendment to Federal Aviation Administration grant agreement No. 3-46-0022-042-2022.
• Approved surplusing a Sig Sauer P320 pistol and appointing an appraisal committee for individual buyback by retiring officer.

The commission will next meet Monday, April 15, in the commission room at City Hall at 5:30 p.m.
