HURON — City commissioners are once again joining hands with Greater Huron Development Corporation in being pro-active in working to attract additional businesses and industries to locate here.
To that end, commissioners on Monday approved a lease agreement with GHDC for property on Center Street in the West Industrial Park.
GHDC will be erecting another speculative building on the site. The development corporation has been successful recently in recruiting buyers of “spec” buildings after they have been constructed and are ready to be finished to fulfill specific needs of occupants.
GHDC will erect a 30,000-square-foot building just east of Lankota.
In other business, commissioners:

• Approved a $216,892 progress payment to Kyburz Carlson Construction of Aberdeen for the public works building, also in the West Industrial Park.
• Awarded a $994,033 bid to Asphalt Paving & Materials Co. of Huron for street milling and overlay. A number of streets will be milled and repaved this year, with the largest single project on Third Street Southwest, between Ohio and Pennington avenues.
• Approved a request for alcoholic beverage consumption in a public area from the Huron Community Improvement Committee for a street dance on June 8. The location will be on Third Street Southeast between Dakota and Kansas avenues.
• Approved the regular full-time status of Officer Jesse Thorne.
• Accepted the voluntary resignation of library clerk Kerry Huber.
• Approved a bridge re-inspection resolution, authorizing the state to hire Infrastructure Design Group Inc. to inspect the Third Street bridge.
The Federal Highway Administration requires that all bridges be re-inspected at intervals not to exceed two years. The Third Street bridge was last inspected in 2016.
The city will be responsible for 20 percent of the fee, with the state Department of Transportation paying the 80 percent balance from federal bridge replacement funds.
• Authorized the Board of Historic Preservation and the Huron Community Campus executive director to apply for grant funds for various needs.
