HURON — Clyde W. Dillman, age 92, of Huron, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2024, Thanksgiving Day, at Avantara Huron.
His memorial visitation, with family present, is Monday, Dec. 2, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Welter Funeral Home.
Clyde Dillman was born on March 4, 1932, in Huron, to parents Estel Dillman and Alta Day. He lived his entire life in Huron, until his later years when he moved to Wolsey, to live with his daughter, Carolyn, for eight months before going to Avantara-Huron. Clyde was a hometown man who knew the streets of Huron like the back of his hand.
Clyde graduated from Huron High School in 1950. After graduating, he served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 to 1954. After completing his service, he worked in farming and transportation. He graduated from Huron College in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
Over the years, he did custom baling and drove Farmers Union Tour Buses, but he is most well-known and appreciated for his service as a school bus driver for the Huron School District. His passion for safe transportation went beyond the typical expectations for the job. Clyde would regularly wake up early in the morning during the winter months to inspect the roads to ensure that students and drivers could travel safely.
Clyde was a dedicated and hardworking man. His passions and pastimes included driving and spending time with family and friends. Before retiring, he ate breakfast and drank coffee every day at the Plains in Huron. After retiring from driving buses for the Huron School District, he would make the trip to Wolsey and back as many as five times a day for coffee and lunch.
He is survived by his daughters, Carolyn (Dale) Getscher of Wolsey and Jody (Lonnie) Oxandaburu of Huron; and his sister, Althea Acker of Wyoming.
Clyde is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rexanna Dillman; and his brothers, Dana Dillman and Bobby Dillman.
