HURON — Top cowboys and cowgirls from across the state will converge on Huron for the South Dakota Rodeo Association Finals Rodeo, which begins Friday and concludes Sunday at the Dakota Events Complex on the South Dakota State Fairgrounds.
It will be the 68th Annual SDRA Finals Rodeo.
“We are very excited. It’s going to bring people from across the state of South Dakota to visit this new facility we have here on the South Dakota State Fairgrounds and to showcase it,” said Judy Stevens of Huron, who is the vice president of the SDRA Board of Directors. “We are also showcasing the cowboys and cowgirls from the state of South Dakota.”
Events included with the Finals Rodeo are team penning, goat tying, bareback riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, ladies’ breakaway roping, senior men’s breakaway roping, team roping, barrel racing, mixed team roping and bull riding.
Each night of the SDRA Finals will carry its own theme. Friday’s rodeo will be Legend’s Night and will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday the Bill and LaDonna Hupp and River Ludemann families will be honored during the rodeo, which is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. Sunday’s performance will be Military Appreciation - Red, White and Blue – and will begin at 1 p.m.
The top 12 from season standings in each of the 12 events will participate in the SDRA Finals Rodeo with hopes of bring home the 2023 title.
“I’d encourage everyone to come out and see all the action,” Stevens said. “This is the place to be this weekend.”
The SDRA Finals Rodeo has been held a various spots throughout the state throughout the years.
The South Dakota Rodeo Association Finals Rodeo will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Dakota Events Complex on the South Dakota State Fairgrounds.
Organizers are looking forward to holding the event in the newly opened Dakota Event Complex.
“With this building we are able to showcase our No. 1 sport of rodeo, along with other events related to our No. 1 industry – agriculture,” Stevens said. “We have a beautiful facility her now, so this is going to five an equal opportunity to all the cowboys and cowgirls.”
In addition to great rodeo action, fans will be treated to a Cowboy Trade Show, which will last the duration of the event in the same facility as the rodeo.
“We will have several vendors coming in to showcase their goods,” Stevens said. “I’d invite everyone to come see what’s new and exciting in the industry and possibly take advantage of the opportunity to get an early start on their Christmas shopping.”
The Cowboy Trade Show will run from 4-10 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m-3 p.m. Sunday.
Also included in Sunday’s events will be a Cowboy Church Service at 9 a.m.
“This rodeo is sponsored by a lot of business, including several local businesses here in Huron,” Stevens said. “We’d like to thank the fair for this facility and the crew for getting it prepared for this event.”
Tickets for the event will be available at the door during each night’s performance.
