Coney Island wins 2025 Burger Battle

Posted

HURON –– After an incredible month of burger eating around Huron in February, Coney Island’s “Coney Burger” emerged among the ten competing restaurants as the winner of this year’s Huron Burger Battle.

Taking second place was The Plains Cafe with their Peachy Bacon Bliss burger while third place went to The Scoreboard for their “The Jammer” burger. The winner is chosen through votes that score each burger on five categories. Roughly 2,200 votes were submitted.

During the event, 6,269 burgers were sold, an increase of two thousand burgers over the 2024 event.

Community members could also get a “burger passport” stamped at each participating restaurant and turn in a completed passport for the chance for a prize. After 172 passports were turned in during the event, the Yeti cooler filled with 25 pounds of beef was awarded to Janet Gross. The cooler and beef were sponsored by Rudy’s Towing and Stahly Farms.

The Huron Burger Battle event is put on by Huron Connect and the Huron Community Improvement Committee as an activity for the community during the winter, but more than that, it allows the community to support local restaurants (and potentially try ones that they haven’t before!).

The sales tax report for February 2025 was up 22 percent from 2024, the first year of the event.

Huron Connect and Huron Community Improvement Committee are grateful for the participation of the businesses in the battle and the community for the excitement for the event and for spending money locally. Shopping local and keeping those dollars in Huron is a win-win for everyone involved. Supporting local businesses leads to a stronger community.

Be on the lookout for more community events on the Huron Connect and Huron Community Improvement Facebook pages throughout the year…the countdown is already on for the 2026 Huron Burger Battle!
