MITCHELL — A Mitchell teen was awarded second-place in the 2023 Congressional Art Competition for South Dakota.

Rachel Ziegeldorf is the daughter of Huron natives Becky (Winter) and Wade Ziegeldorf, and the granddaughter of Ron and Karen Ziegeldorf of Huron, and Huron natives Cathy and Dave Winter of Sioux Falls. She is a sophomore at Mitchell High School.

Ziegeldorf’s colored pencil piece, “Blotsma,” will be displayed in Rep. Johnson’s Washington, D.C. office for the next year.

The Congressional Art Competition is sponsored by Rep. Johnson’s office in partnership with the South Dakota Arts Council. The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982, providing members of Congress with an opportunity to recognize talent in their home districts.
