Posted

HURON –– The Beadle County Commission met as the county’s board of equalization during Tuesday morning’s meeting to approve the veteran freeze assessments, the discretionary listings, and a tax appeal. After reviewing these, the board approved the 2025 property tax abstract for the county.

The commission also met as the board of adjustment to approve two variance requests, each to construct a building closer to the property line than code allows, one in Yale and one near Wolsey. Both were approved.

The commission met with four department heads to discuss the 2026 budget and potential needs for each department in the budget.

Highway department superintendent Jason Fritzsche presented a milling bid and hot mix bid through other counties. Both were approved. A 2003 Kenworth truck was approved for surplus.

Two resignations from the jail were approved.

Five plats were approved and two tax abatements were approved.

The commission also approved the renewal of 2025-2026 on-off sale malt beverage and SD farm wine licenses in the county.

Finally, District 22 Representative Kevin Van Diepen spoke with the commission regarding the 2025 session and the bills that affected the county and townships.

Beadle County Commission meets next on Tuesday, May 13, at 9 a.m. in the commission room on the second floor of the courthouse.
