HURON — The Beadle County Commission met for extended time on Tuesday morning, with multiple executive sessions throughout the morning, but the 2025 provisional budget was approved after work throughout the day on the budget. The final adoption of the budget will be September 24.
The meeting opened with a discussion with David Wheeler on removing a 2021 court appointed attorney fee from an individual who has now had the fee go to collections.
Wheeler explained that attorney’s fees were waived by the judge in the case and should never have been charged back to the individual. This was approved.
Highway superintendent Jason Fritzsche reported that his department is busy mowing road ditches and blading roads as well. He discussed proposed projects for 2025.
The commission approved a letting authorization, utilities certificate, and right of way certificate for a structure in Wessington Township that will be let by the Department of Transportation in the next six months for construction as part of the 2025 federal bridge program.
Two preliminary engineer grants were also approved.
Commissioners declined a request for county assistance with rent due to a substantial outstanding court fees debt owed to the county without recent payment made.
Fund transfers to the highway department and emergency management department were both approved.
The commission will next meet on August 13 at 9 a.m. in the commission room on the second floor of the courthouse.
