County extends deadline for commissioner vacancy

Posted

HURON –– The Beadle County Commissioners addressed the vacant District No. 4 commissioner spot during their meeting Tuesday. After a discussion with the state’s attorney and among themselves, the commission chose to extend the time to submit a written letter of interest in the commissioner spot to Monday, July 7. All potential letters need to be received by that date.

The commission intends to review applications at their July 8 meeting and then choose among the applicants to appoint to fill out the remainder of the current term for the role. The first meeting for the newly-appointed commissioner will be July 15.

The meeting opened with highway superintendent Jason Fritzsche. Frizsche reported that crews have been blading county roads and mowing road ditches. He also stated that crews are chip sealing 214th Ave.

A pay request for asphalt surfacing on Ninth St. was approved. A joint powers agreement for an upcoming construction detour that will lead to additional traffic on county roads was presented from DOT and approved.

The commission approved a variance request for Michael Ksiazkiewiez to add another residence on a quarter with more than four houses currently. This was approved.

Commissioners approved a plat and two hires for the museum.

The commission will meet three times in July, on July 8, 15 and 29, with the meeting on the 15th focused on the 2026 budget.
