HURON –– The Beadle County Commission heard from IMEG Engineering on its annual report on the bridge inspection in the county during Tuesday morning’s meeting at the Beadle County courthouse.
This year’s inspection reviewed 81 bridges in the county. Of those, 21 were rated as “poor,” with an average cost to repair of $1.28 million for each bridge with a poor grade.
Highway Superintendent Jason Fritzsche presented street maintenance agreements with Iroquois and Cavour, a bridge construction agreement, an amendment with DOT for funding disbursement, accepted gravel bids, and the purchase of a tractor. All of these were approved by the commission.
Sheriff Doug Solem reported that an incident at the jail did lead to injury to two jailers and the transfer of a prisoner. He came to the commission to discuss sewage issues within the jail. These issues have also been reported in the courthouse, and the commission approved getting the issue reviewed and fixed.
The joint cooperative agreement with NECOG was approved for 2025.
The commission approved five plats and two tax deed real state sales. The land sale to open the meeting was declared a no-sale for lack of interest.
The states’ attorney met with the commission via phone to discuss a contract with Morgan Theeler LLP to act as deputy states’ attorney and a new laptop in the office. These were both approved.
The commission approved funds transfers to balance accounts to close the year.
Commissioners will meet to swear in new commissioners and assign seats on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 9 a.m. in the courthouse.
