HURON — A proposal sent to Commissioner Denis Drake was presented to the Beadle County Commission Tuesday morning and approved. The proposal will set up a site visit to review and assess the current HVAC system in the courthouse and offer a written recommendation for upgrades to the system.

Associated Consulting Engineering, Inc. out of Sioux Falls will perform the visit and evaluation at a cost of $1,200 to the county. This was approved.

Highway superintendent Jason Fritzsche opened the meeting by presenting two bids to the commission, one for micro surface work on the Virgil Road and one for the county’s overlay for 2024. The micro surface bid came to $246,706.68, which was submitted by Asphalt Surfacing Company of Sioux Falls. This was below the engineer’s estimate for the project and was accepted.

The overlay bid was awarded to Asphalt Paving & Paving Materials Company for a total bid of $1,143,772.22. This was approved.

A natural gas contract with NorthWestern Energy for delivery from November through April was approved.

Recently-sold tax deed property sales were approved, as was a plat for estate planning purposes.

The next county commission meeting will be on March 12 at the courthouse at 9 a.m. The state of the county luncheon is at noon on Thursday, March 21 at the Huron Event Center.
