HURON — In a brief meeting Tuesday morning, the Beadle County Commission reviewed and approved contracts for 12 counties to use the Beadle County jail for prisoners. The contract rate for out-of-county prisoners was approved at $95 per day.

Highway superintendent Jason Fritzsche opened the meeting with an update on the new highway building, stating that substantial completion review of the building is set for March 23.

Commissioners approved a Rural Access Infrastructure Funding grant for Nance Township and approved the purchase of a new Mack truck for 2024 to fulfill the VW truck program grant that the highway department was awarded.

Fritzsche stated that the county will put load limits on county roads beginning Monday, March 20.

The commission approved a plat for agricultural land on the south side of 21st Street, pending joint jurisdictional approval and city approval.

An abatement freeze for Mount Olivet church was approved for property acquired in July 2022.

A hearing was held to approve on/off sale malt beverage and on-sale retail liquor licenses for Andy Gross for his business at Lake Byron. This was approved.

The county will open bids for a new compressor for the air conditioner on the courthouse on April 11.

The next meeting of the county commission will be Tuesday, March 28, at 9 a.m. in the commission room at the courthouse.
