Defending champions lead fields for 'B' and 'A' state tournaments

After more than three months of regular season and post season play, the state tournament fiels for next week’s Class “B” and “A” State Tournaments at The Monument in Rapid City are set. And the defending champions in each division are back atop the mountain, waiting to see if anyone can knock them off.

All matches begin at noon central time, on Thursday, Nov. 16. Championship matches are set for Saturday afternoon and evening.

Class A
The defending state champion Sioux Falls Christian Chargers will carry a record of 32-4 and the top seed into the Class “A State Tournament. SFC will face Lennox (19-10) in the first game in the bracket, followed by fourth-seeded Platte-Geddes (31-6) and No. 4 Dell Rapids (26-6).

The evening session will find No. 2 Rapid City Christian (33-5) taking on the seven seed, Dakota Valley, at 19-10. The first round will end with the matchup between the third seeded Miller Rustlers (28-6) and No. 6 Wagner, which is 26-6.

Class B
The Warner Monarchs won the “B” last year and have yet to taste defeat in 2023, as they will take a 37-0 record and the top seed into the Class “B” State Tournament.

The Monarchs will face No. 8 Gayville-Volin (21-11) in the first round, after the Raiders upset Faith in the SoDak 16 Tuesday night.

That match is followed by the match between the fourth seeded Burke Lady Cougars (31-4) and the No. 5 Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds, with a record of 29-4.

The evening session will feature the No. 2 Chester Flyers (30-2) and the seventh seeded Faulkton Area Trojans, who are 24-9. The opening round wraps up with a match between No. 3 Colman-Egan (28-5) and No. 6 Castlewood, at 21-8
