Dennis was born May 23, 1933, to John and Mary (Tschetter) Decker at Carpenter, South Dakota.
On October 18, 1954, Dennis married Jane Wipf at the Huron Mission Church and started their life together in Gary, Ind., while Dennis served in the United States Army. They then moved near Yale where they started their family. During the time they raised their family, they lived in the communities of Mitchell, Sioux Falls and Yankton. Yankton is where his grandchildren made most of their childhood memories as the Decker family.
Dennis farmed for 12 years along with hauling gravel part-time. He then managed the Farmers Co-op in Yale for several years, until they moved to Yankton in 1977, where he was the manager of Farmers Co-op.
Dennis loved trucking, so he purchased some trucks, hauling freight across the United States for approximately 21 years.
In 1998, Dennis and Jane retired and moved to Huron to be near their family. Dennis then worked part-time mowing for the City of Huron at the Broadland Creek Golf Course. He also spent many years driving semi grain trucks for local farmers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jane; one son, Douglas Decker; one grandson, Braden Erickson; one son-in-law, Bill “Ernie” Fox; an infant sister, Esther; one sister, Irene and Ervin Kleinsasser; one brother, Howard Decker; and one sister-in-law, Esther Decker.
