DEX spring events wrap up

Posted

HURON — Rodeo events have been taking place twice each week for the past month wrapped up earlier this week.

Since the first week in April there has been open riding, practice night and jackpots in the DEX on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Events have included barrels, poles, goats, breakaway, calf roping and team roping.

The spring finale was Wednesday, with an added money calf roping and a Cowgirl Triathlon

Calf Roping was limited to eight cowboys. First place went to Clay Stevens and second place was Royce Bruns

In the Cowgirl Triathlon, the cowgirl begins with a breakaway run, roping her calf by the neck, then on to the standard three-barrel pattern. As the competitor is turning the third barrel and heading to the finish, she had to she get off her horse to tie a goat for her final time.

A total of 15 total cowgirls entered. First place in the 10-and under division was Baylee Brewer; first in the 11-18 bracket was Charleigh Brewer, while Lacy Eaton won the 18-and-older division.
