ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Dick Rodman, 70, passed away Friday, October 25, 2024, at Asheville, North Carolina.
Graveside rites are set for 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9, at Restlawn Memory Gardens’ Mausoleum, Huron.
Dick LaVerne Rodman was born on Feb. 17, 1954, to Roderick and Dorothy (Rayburn) Rodman at Huron. He attended Huron Public Schools and graduated from Huron College with a degree in Criminal Justice.
Dick married Julie Erickson in Huron, and from this union were born two boys, Mark and Kyle. He was employed by the Redfield and Huron Police Departments. The family later moved to Casper, Wyo., St. George, Utah, and ultimately Hendersonville, N.C.
Dick was heavily involved in Boy Scouts while growing up, attending the National Boy Scout Jamboree in 1968. This coincided with the first man to step on the moon, during which one of the astronauts, who had been a Boy Scout himself, left a list on the moon that included the names of all the Boy Scouts attending the National Jamboree. Dick loved animals, camping, remote-controlled airplanes, metal-detecting, and especially his kids and grandkids.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his sons, Kyle (Ashley) Rodman and Mark Rodman and grandkids Landon and Mya Rodman, all of North Carolina; a twin sister, Susan (John] Ehrk, Huron, brother Scott Rodman, Huron, sister Kathy (Bob) Neitzert, Huron, and sister Amy LaFortune (Todd Schroeder], Montana; nephew David Ehrk, step-nephew Josh Kramer, niece and nephews Samantha Dahl, Steven, Shane, and Spencer LaFortune, and many cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Dick and Almeda (Gordon) Rodman and Robert and Stella (Peters) Rayburn; one sister-in-law, Carrol Rodman; and one niece, Cindy Ehrk.
