The Doland United Methodist Church will celebrate the 100th anniversary of their church building on Sunday, Sept. 24, and everyone is invited.

The celebration will be held during the regular morning worship service at 10 a.m. with Pastor John Hisel conducting the service and former pastor Kris Larson as special speaker.

The program will include several former pastors, special music and honoring longtime church members.

Following the service lunch will be served in the Fellowship Hall.

The beginning of the Doland congregation dates back to a Methodist layman named Mr. Clark, who in 1882 homesteaded two miles northeast of Doland. When he could not find a place to worship, he started religious services in the train depot and later the Sherman House.

The first church was built in 1884. By 1922, more space was needed and it was decided to build a larger church. The first worship in the new church was held on Feb. 4, 1923.

The church is currently served by the pastoral team of pastor John Hisel, Kody Bullock and pastor Jon Damaska.
